Prayagraj: A bomb threat targeting the upcoming Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, scheduled to start on January 13, has raised alarm among UP Police, who are actively pursuing the suspect both online and offline. The threat, made through a post on X, claims a blast would kill at least 1,000 attendees at the religious event. This marks the second such threat on social media within a fortnight aimed at disrupting the Maha Kumbh.

FIR Lodged Against X User

The Mela police filed an FIR against unknown individuals under the BNS and IT Act, enlisting the assistance of the cyber cell for the investigation. SSP Kumbh Mela, Rajesh Dwivedi, informed TOI that teams are working to locate the source of the post linked to an individual named Nasar Pathan, who uploaded it on Tuesday. Investigators are analyzing various inputs to track the poster’s identity, and Dwivedi expressed optimism, stating, “We have got some clues and the case will be worked out soon,” according to a report by Times Of India.

Previous Threat

Previously, a voice/video threat emerged, foreseeing disturbances on significant bathing days, supposedly from Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. This video surfaced after police in UP’s Pilibhit killed three members of the Khalistan Zindabad Force. The investigation continues as authorities prioritize public safety during the Maha Kumbh.

The Maha Kumbh, the world’s largest religious congregation, is set to begin in Prayagraj on January 13, 2025. With only 12 days remaining, a concerning social media post emerged on Tuesday threatening a blast at the Mela. In response, the Mela police registered an FIR against an individual for criminal intimidation and provoking a breach of peace under sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
