New Delhi: Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is not implementing the farmers friendly schemes. In a letter written to Atishi, Chouhan said that the farmers of the national capital territory are ‘upset’ and ‘worried’.
“I am writing this letter to you with great sadness. You have never made appropriate decisions in the interest of farmers in Delhi. The farmer-friendly schemes of the Central Government have also been prevented from being implemented in Delhi by your government. Your government has no sympathy for farmers. Today the farmers of Delhi are upset and worried,” the union minister said in the letter.
“Due to the non-implementation of many farmer welfare schemes of the Center by the Delhi Government, the farmer brothers and sisters are being deprived of the benefits of these schemes. I had earlier also written a letter to you and informed you about the problems of the farmers of Delhi, but it is a matter of concern that your government has not resolved these problems,” he added.
What Atishi Said:
Responding to Chouhan’s allegations, Atishi compared the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to gangster Dawood Ibrahim. According to reports, the Delhi CM said that the BJP’s thinking about the welfare scheme for farmers was like Dawood preaching non-violence. She alleged that faremers were suffering under the BJP’s rule. She also requested to stop politicising the farmers’ issue.
WhatArvind Kejriwal Said:
AAP’s national convenor and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the Centre has not fulfilled the demands of farmers from Punjab even after accepting them three years ago. “Farmers in Punjab have been sitting on dharna and indefinite hunger strike for many days. Their demands are the same which the central government had accepted three years ago but has not implemented yet. The BJP government has now reneged on its promise. The BJP government is not even talking to the farmers. Talk to them. They are the farmers of our own country. Why is the BJP so arrogant that it does not even talk to anyone?” he wrote on his X handle.
Kejriwal further alleged that the Narendra Modi-led government is planning to bring back the three farm laws, which were rolled back in 2021, through “backdoor”.
“May God keep the farmers in Punjab who are on indefinite strike safe, but if something happens to them then BJP will be responsible for it. For the information of farmers across the country, let me tell you that the three black laws which were withdrawn by the Centre three years ago due to the farmers’ agitation, the Central Government is preparing to implement them again through the back door by calling them “policies”. The Centre has sent a copy of this policy to all the states to know their views,” he wrote.
