Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed reports of unrest within the dressing room ahead of the fifth and final Test against Australia in Sydney, beginning on January 3. With the 42-year-old dismissing them merely as reports, Gambhir said he doesn’t feel the need to answer questions based on rumours.
According to The Indian Express, Gambhir fumed on the players for not executing the plans on the field they discuss in the dressing room. The reports of rift came after India lost the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne to go down 1-2 in the five-match series, with the batting line-up coming under sharp focus.
Speaking at the presser, here’s what Gambhir said in response to the dressing room leaks as Australian media CODE Sports shared a video of the same:
“Those are just reports. That’s not the truth. And I don’t think I need to answer to any reports, to be honest. There are some honest words, that’s all I can say. Honesty is very important, honesty is extremely important if you want to go and achieve great things.”
“There is only one tendency and there is only one discussion – it’s the team first ideology that matters. You need to play what the team needs. You can still play your natural game in a team sport – but if the team needs you – you need to play in a certain way. Every individual knows what are areas to work on. We have only had one conversation with them (and that is) how to win Test matches.“
