The new year has started with severe cold in North India. The effect of cold wave is being seen in the entire region including Delhi-NCR. The effect of snowfall in the mountains is being felt in the plains as well. The mercury is continuously falling due to cold westerly winds.

Effect of cold will increase in Delhi

The triple attack of dense fog, cold day and cold wave continues in Delhi.

  • Maximum Temperature: 18°C
  • Minimum temperature: 9°C
  • There is a possibility of light rain between January 4 and 5, which may further increase the cold.
  • During rains the maximum temperature may drop to 15°C to 16°C.

Weather condition in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar

Uttar Pradesh:

  • Severe cold alert in Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, and Baghpat.
  • Cold day expected in Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Amroha, and Moradabad.
  • The maximum temperature has been recorded below 14°C in many districts.

Bihar:

  • Maximum temperature likely to drop by 4°C to 5°C in next 2-3 days.
  • Chilliness will increase at night in districts like Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Arwal, Patna, Vaishali, Gaya, and Nalanda.
  • Patna, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Nalanda, Aurangabad, and Samastipur will have dense fog in the morning and night.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding dense fog and severe cold in North India.

States with alerts:

  • Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi: Alert of severe cold and fog.
  • Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Assam, Sikkim, Manipur, and Tripura: Dense fog.
  • Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland: Ground frost alert.

Chances of rain in these states

  • Jammu and Kashmir:
    • Chance of rain in north-western parts due to western disturbance.
  • Tamil Nadu:
    • It may rain especially in Tirunelveli region today.
    • Light rain was recorded here on January 1 also.
