Satna (Madhya Pradesh): The temples of on the hills of Kamadgiri in Chitrakoot were decked up on the occasion of New Year on Wednesday when thousands of people gathered at those temples to seek blessings of the deities kept in these temples.

All the temples in the area spread over five kilometers were decorated with lights. Special food was offered to the deities in the evening. According to the priest of a temple Rohit, during the exile for 14 years, Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman stayed in Chitrakoot for 11 years, 11 months and 11 days.  

Lord Ram used to worship Kamadgiri daily. Amavasya or the new moon has a special place in Chitrakoot, because on this day, lakhs of devotees flock to this place to offer prayers before the deities. Similarly, lakhs of people flocked to Sharda temple. 

The district administration made special arrangements for the occasion. Although it was very cold on the night of December 31, hundreds of people queued up to have a Darshan of the deity at the temple from the night. The district administration arranged for bonfires to keep the devotees warm.  

The police kept an eye on every corner of the temple premises. The devotees were asked to park their vehicles one and half kilometers away from the temple.
