Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is currently facing criticism for his poor form and captaincy during the Australia tour. Neither Rohit is able to score runs with the bat nor is his captaincy proving helpful in helping the team win. Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has given a big statement regarding his Test career and captaincy.

Rohit’s performance on Australia tour

  • Rohit Sharma did not participate in the first test due to family reasons.
  • After his return, he handed over the opening slot to KL Rahul in two matches.
  • Rohit opened in the Melbourne Test, but Team India had to face a crushing defeat of 184 runs.
  • In the current series, Rohit has scored only 31 runs in five innings, in which he was out on single digit scores four times.

Basit Ali’s suggestion: Right time to retire from Test

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has advised Rohit Sharma to leave Test captaincy and take retirement.

  • Basit’s statement:

“This is the right time for Rohit to retire from Test cricket. His body is no longer supporting him.”

  • He suggested that Rohit should hand over the captaincy to Jasprit Bumrah after playing the last Test.
  • Basit praised Bumrah and said,

“In the absence of Rohit, Bumrah captained brilliantly in the Perth Test and led the team to victory by 295 runs.”

Impact on KL Rahul

Basit Ali criticized Rohit’s decisions and said that his performance is negatively impacting not only the team but also KL Rahul’s form.

  • Pressure on Rahul:

“Rahul was batting well, but Rohit’s decision put unnecessary pressure on him. As a result, Rahul also could not score big.”

Australia’s strong planning

Praising Australia’s strategy, Basit said that the Indian team is playing defensively.

  • Melbourne Test defeat:

“The Indian team played for a draw on the last day, but could not stand against Australia’s excellent planning.”

Rohit’s bad form

  • Rohit Sharma is struggling to score runs in the current series.
  • His score in five innings is only 31, in which he was out in single digits four times.
  • Team India’s batting has been affected by their poor form.

Last Test: Will Bumrah get command?

The fifth and final Test of the series will be played in Sydney from January 3.

  • Australia is currently leading 2-1 in the series.
  • The last test match can be decisive for the Indian team.
  • As per Basit Ali’s suggestion, this could be the right time when Bumrah is given a chance to captain.
