New Year’s Eve is just hours away and Delhi is making massive preparation to control unruly revellers and potential breach of law and order. Delhi Police has now announced that 20,000 personnel, including traffic police and even paramilitary will be deployed to prevent untoward incidents.

Police officials will also be deployed on Delhi’s borders with Haryana, Uttar Pradesh.

It is often seen that revellers from Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh come to Delhi to celebrate on New Year’s Eve.

“We have prepared a comprehensive arrangement to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors during the upcoming new year’s eve celebrations,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar. He was quoted by ANI.

The official added that crowds are expected to gather in hotels, clubs, pubs, malls and other public places.

“Zone-A will be supervised by additional DCP-I at places like the Parliament Street and Connaught Place and Zone-B will be supervised by Additional DCP-II at places like Chanakya Puri, Barakhamba Road, and Tughlak Road. There will be four ACPs, 23 inspectors, 648 police staff, 100 home guards, 11 companies of Central Armed Police Force — 10 companies of men and one company of women will be deployed,” said the DCP.

As per ANI 43 foot-patrolling teams, two teams of bomb disposal squad, 28 door frame metal detectors, two teams of SWAT, two fire tenders, 29 border pickets, 30 vehicle-checking parties, seven plain-cloth spotters, five arrest parties, three teams of Prakram vehicles, 33 MPVs, 30 motorcycle-patrolling teams and two jail vans will be deployed.

Buses going to Connaught Place will be diverted from 7 pm on Tuesday (December 31). Exit gates of Rajiv Chowk Metro Station will be closed after 9 pm to prevent overcrowding.

The authorities are also going to deployed to conduct medical examinations to catch cases of drunken driving.

In addition to this, an excise inspector will be present to check violations of Excise Laws and other rules.

The DCP said that everyone will be frisked and consumption of liquor at public places will not be allowed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Surendra Choudhary said that comprehensive security arrangements were being made to ensure celebrations are peaceful.
