Mumbai: Panic gripped commuters on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Highway highway after over 50 vehicles were punctured. According to a report by NDTV, these vehicles were punctured as they passed over an iron board that had fallen on the highway. The reported incident took place on December 29 at around 10 pm.

Vehicles were reportedly punctured between the Malegaon and Vanoja toll plaza in Washim district. Traffic movement was disrupted due to the incident, resulting in long jams on the road.

Commuters faced inconvenience as no assistance came for hours at night. Authorities are investigating whether the board had fallen accidentally or it was placed on the road intentionally, reported NDTV.

The Samruddhi Highway is amongst the country’s longest greenfield road project that connects two major cities of Maharashtra – Mumbi and Nagpur. The highway is partially functional with a six-lane wide and 701-km long access-controlled expressway in the western state. The total project cost was around Rs 55,000.

Once completed, the Samruddhi Highway will travel through 10 key districts directly and 14 districts indirectly.
