Kabul: Taliban is often in the news due to its unique decrees related to women, and recently it has issued a new order. The supreme leader of the Taliban has issued a decree banning the construction of windows in residential buildings.

A Taliban government spokesman said in a statement Saturday night that new buildings “should not have windows that can be seen from courtyards, kitchens, neighbors’ wells and other places commonly used by women.”

accused of promoting obscenity

According to this order, the Municipal Corporation and other concerned departments have been directed to monitor the construction sites to ensure that peeping into the neighbors’ houses is not possible. If such windows are present in a home, homeowners would be encouraged to build walls or block the view to avoid disturbing neighbors.

United Nations concern

Since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, women have been gradually excluded from public life, in what the UN has accused of “gender apartheid”. The Taliban have banned post-primary education for girls and women, as well as restricted their access to employment and public spaces, such as parks.

Women’s songs also banned

Additionally, the Taliban government passed a new law that prohibits women from singing or reciting poetry in public. As a result, many local radio and television stations have also stopped broadcasting women’s voices.

The Taliban administration claims it “guarantees” the rights of Afghan men and women under Islamic law, but their orders and policies have sparked concern and criticism in the international community.
