Meerut: In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old boy allegedly killed his close friend in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut. He was detained by the police. During the questioning, he confessed to the crime. The minor accused reportedly told police that his friend had stolen videos and photos of his girlfriend and was blackmailing her.
The deceased and the accused were neighbours and were students of class 11 and 12 respectively, reported NDTV. The deceased has been identified as Abhinav. The two were preparing for engineering entrance exams and used to go to a coaching centre together, which was 15 kilometres from their homes.
Abhinav used to ride his scooter and the accused would sit as a pillion. The incident took place on Saturday. Abhinav’s parents started searching for him when he did not return from the coaching centre. They asked the accused, however, he said that he did not know anything.
A missing complaint was registered by Abhinav’s father on Saturday night suspected of the accused’s involvement in the disappearance of his son. The police immediately swung into action. They monitored the CCTV installed in the area.
The CCTV footage showed two teens together. The police detained the accused on the basis of suspicion. During the questioning, he told cops that he murdered Abhinav as the deceased had taken videos of his girlfriend from his phone and was blackmailing her.
On Saturday, the accused went with Abhinav to sell his phone. After selling the phone for Rs 8,000, the two ate at a restaurant, reported NDTV. They then went to a tubewell, where the accused hammered his friend to death.
The police handed Abhinav’s body to his family. However, they refused to perform the last rites until justice was served. The police also recovered the hammer with which the accused killed Abhinav.
The accused will be produced before the court. A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter.
