Samajwadi Party leader and Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Mata Prasad Pandey, announced that he will hand over cheques of Rs. 5 lakh to the kin of those deceased in the Sambhal riots today, fulfilling the promise made by party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The SP leader told news agency ANI, “Our national president had announced to give Rs. 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased in Sambhal. We are going to Sambhal today to hand over those cheques.”

Last month, former UP CM and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had announced that his party would provide compensation worth Rs. 5 lakh to the kin of those deceased in the Sambhal violence.

Amid ongoing excavation work at various places in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav recently took a jibe at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and suggested that a Shivling might also be found at the CM’s residence. “Since the excavation work is underway, I believe that there is a Shivling at the Chief Minister’s residence too… we have faith that the Shivling is there,” Yadav said.

“We should all prepare for its excavation… The media should go first, and we will join after that,” he further said.

Meanwhile, the district administration has initiated restoration and reconstruction work at the Chaturmukh Well in Sambhal. District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya informed that the local municipal council has commenced the restoration efforts. He added that a budget proposal will be sought from the state government to develop the site as a pilgrimage destination.
