Overheard In Bhopal: Application Withdrawn, Surprising Name, Gathering Storm, On The Radar & More | FP Photo
Application withdrawn
A senior officer has withdrawn his application for a post. This happened at a time when several officers in the state were trying for post-retirement rehabilitation. The officer who applied for the position of chairman in the Electricity Regulatory Commission informed the Energy Department about withdrawal of his application. His action has surprised many in the corridors of power, for everyone knew he had stood a fair chance of getting the position. But by taking back his application, the officer startled many in the corridors of power. There are reports that he has pledged to keep away from any kind of rehabilitation, but in fact, the bureaucrat is going to change his career after serving the government for such a long time. The officer is preparing for a PhD and plans to opt for teaching after retirement. So, the other aspirants are trying to get the post.
Surprising name
There are reports that the names of certain people connected to builders have surfaced after I-T raids. An unexpected name has also figured in it. A female officer bought a plot of land through the builders. The income-tax department smells a rat in the deal. Although the prices of land are very high in the area, she bought it for a song. The builders may have given a plot of land to the officer at cheaper rates, but the I-T officers suspect black money might have played a role in the deal. The I-T department is ready to serve notices on those who invested money in land through the builders. This female bureaucrat considered upright may get an I-T notice that is set to hit a nerve.
Gathering storm
A huge quantity of gold and cash found during raids in the state capital has raised stink across the country. The agency which carried out the raids on the residential premises of the person could barely imagine that they would hit upon such an enormous quantity of gold and cash in a house. After the raids, two senior police officers may be tense, because the incident has many twists and turns. The story behind cash and gold is still a riddle that may discomfit an officer. After the raids, the government is planning to remove another IPS officer. Because there are many complaints against the Sahib, the government is mulling over his removal from the present position. So, in place of the present incumbent, the government plans to shift an honest officer to the department.
On the radar
Several people are on the I-T department’s radar after the recent raids on the residential premises of some builders. The axe may fall on some of them before the financial year closes in March. Two persons who have made huge offstage deals hogged the limelight. They are buying plots of land in the name of other people, but such buyers are on the I-T radar, and one of them is closely connected with a minister in the state cabinet. This man is doing big deals and handling the minister’s investments. The probe agency has laid their hands on some evidence related to this man. They are collecting more information about him. The name of another person, with whom several officers are connected, has figured in the case, and the agencies are keeping an eye on him.
Desires unfulfilled
Hazaaron khwahishein aisi ki har khwahish pe dum nikle Bahut nikle mere armaan, lekin phir bhi kam nikle (A thousand desires are as such that each squeezes life out of me. Many of my yearnings are fulfilled, but many are yet to be…) These lines aptly portray the condition that an IAS officer is in. He has been posted in such a place where he is divested of all powers. The Sahib has neither any clout nor any scope for anything. He has to count on life hacks to meet his daily needs. He had a crack at everything to get an important position, but it came to naught. Now, the Sahib is making efforts for post-retirement rehabilitation in any department so that he may get an official bungalow and a car. There are reports that the Sahib has expressed this desire to the Bade Sahib, but because of his bitter relations with the government, the chances of his being appointed to an important position are slim. Yet, he is not giving up hopes.
Commission is buzzword
An officer had a lot of work, and he was taking bribes from all departments. After the person who the Sahib was counting on lost his clout, the Sahib’s golden days became a thing of the past. The Sahib does not have as much work as he had, but he has found a way out. The officer has increased the amount of bribe he gets from the rest of the departments that he still holds. He is clearly telling the suppliers that since the number of departments he was holding has lessened, they have to work on new rates. The officer has so far kept away from interfering in field work, but now, he has begun to do it. He keeps an account of each work. There is chaos in the department because of him. He is not on good terms with the minister and other officers of the department. The Sahib may be sent to the loop line in the coming days.
