Actress Kitu Gidwani, best known for starring in the television show Shaktimaan, recently opened up about her debut Bollywood film Holi which also featured Aamir Khan. In the 1984 political drama, Kitu played the role of a ‘sexy girl on college campus’. She also recalled shooting a kissing scene with Aamir during which he got ‘nervous’ as he was a newcomer in the Hindi film industry.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Kitu shared, “Aamir had just started his career in cinema then. He is a man who loves cinema. He was creative. I had no clue who Aamir Khan was. He was very quiet person. They were all very humble and cool. He was very nervous when we had to kiss. He was as nervous as I was. He was very simple actor back then. I can call him a friend.”

Revealing how she bagged the film, the actress recalled, “Aamir was a nobody during those days. We were all crazy people on film institute campus. Filmmaker Ketan Mehta asked me, ‘Will you do Holi?’ and I was like, ‘What is Holi?’ He said, ‘Its a film I am doing.’ And that’s how it all happened.”

The 57-year-old actress added, “I just played the sexy girl on campus. Back then, it was not about money or stepping stone. We just did what we liked.”

Holi also starred Naseeruddin Shah, Ashutosh Gowariker, Om Puri, Deepti Naval, Paresh Rawal, Shriram Lagoo, and others. It was written and directed by Ketan Mehta.

Sharing her experience of working with Naseeruddin Shah, Kitu stated, “He is quiet humble when he comes before his co-actors. I joined his theatre group, Motley Crew. For us, the work was more important. For Naseer, work is worship. He was our friend, but I saw him as my guru. He never asked for it, I felt like respecting him.”
