U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has already compiled a list of people scheduled for deportation. About 18,000 undocumented Indians have been identified who are likely to be deported.

Despite talk of good diplomatic relations between India and America, the process of repatriation of Indians continues. According to a report, the pace of deportation of immigrants from America is such that in the year 2024, one Indian will be deported from America to India every 6 hours. According to the annual report for fiscal year 2024 released by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on December 19, one Indian was deported from the US to India every 6 hours this year. The important thing here is that in this case, the number of people being deported from America to India has not decreased, but has increased significantly.

This number has increased more in 2024 compared to 2023.

The number of Indians deported during 2024 (1,529 out of 2,71,484) increased by 400 percent compared to 2021 (292 out of total 59,011). Whereas in the year 2023, 1,42,580 people were deported from America, which included 370 Indians. Whereas in 2022, out of 72,177 deported people, 276 were Indians.

Fluctuations in the number of deportations over the years could be due to various factors, including changes in US immigration policies, enforcement priorities and bilateral agreements between India and the US, a senior official at India’s central agency said. He said the increase in numbers in 2024 “also reflects broader immigration trends and enforcement actions targeting people without legal status in the US.”
