Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The MGM Allied Science Institute (MAHSI) is on the verge of closure as the government has not allowed new admissions for the past two years. The government’s dilly dallying has hanged the future of hundreds of students across the state in balance. Moreover, the institute had given provisional admission to 300 students in 2023, but their future is now uncertain.
“The main reason for this crisis is the inclusion of the institute in the Paramedical Council and a statewide nursing colleges’ fraud issue, which led to the halt in permissions. Despite several requests to the Health Minister and the Medical Education Department, no action has been taken,” official sources said.
As a result, exams for around 1,400 students enrolled in various courses are on hold, and many have completed only their first-year exams. MAHSI offers 19 paramedical courses like physiotherapy, lab technician, dialysis technician, and optometry.
Students from all over the state study here and also assist in hospitals like MY Hospital and Cancer Hospital. The institute depends on student fees to operate, but with no new admissions, it is struggling to pay salaries to teachers and staff.Students, frustrated with the delay, have submitted complaints and fear their careers are at risk.
Director Dr DK Taneja has visited Bhopal many times seeking permission for admissions but has only received vague assurances. “We’ve written many letters to officials, but received no response. It’s becoming impossible to keep the institute running,”Dr Taneja said.
