Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A software engineer has thrown out her hubby from their home, asking him to come back only if he manages to secure a decent job. She has also filed a case seeking maintenance from him in the Bhopal district family court.
The couple had married for love and is parents of a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Both are in their late twenties. Their romance began at their workplace. After completing her graduation in engineering, the woman began working in a local private firm. There she met her future husband, who introduced himself as an MBA. Love followed and they decided to tie the knot.
The woman’s parents were against their marriage due to caste considerations. She was a Brahmin whereas he comes from one of the Scheduled Castes. Finally, she married him in 2019.
Soon, the Covid-19 pandemic forced a lockdown and they worked from their home for a couple of months. Subsequently, the man quit his job and the woman discovered that he was not an MBA but only a B.Com.
The woman was now the family’s breadwinner. There were unending quarrels with her insisting that the man should find a job. About a year back, the woman decided that enough was enough and threw the man out of their rented accommodation. He was told to come back only after securing a decent job.
The man has sought forgiveness from his wife numerous times and has been begging for readmission to his home. But the woman is not ready to forgive and forget. She, along with her daughter, is now living with her mother. And to make her intentions clear, she has filed a case seeking maintenance from her husband.
Counsellor at the family court, Shail Awasthi who is handling the case says this case is an example of the changing times. “A woman driving out her hubby from home and ignoring his pleas to be taken is a role reversal of sorts, which breaks the familiar stereotype of hapless women being thrown out from home by husbands,” Awasthi adds.
