Mumbai: The Chembur Police have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of stealing a student’s mobile phone and gold ring by engaging them in conversation. The arrested individual, identified as Aliraj Syed, is a resident of Shivaji Nagar, Govandi.

According to Police, The incident occurred on December 19 when a 16-year-old boy, residing in Siddharth Colony, Chembur, was returning home with two friends after attending private tuition.

Around 7 PM, the accused intercepted the three students on Postal Colony Road. Using distraction tactics, Aliraj managed to steal a gold ring from one student and a mobile phone from another before fleeing the scene.

The students informed their families upon returning home, who then accompanied them to the Chembur Police Station to file a complaint.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case of fraud and initiated an investigation.

They examined CCTV footage from the area and, with the help of informants, successfully apprehended Aliraj Syed. Further investigation is underway.
