Instead of peace on the occasion of Christmas, violence shook the atmosphere in the northeastern state of Manipur. Heavy firing in the hilly districts adjacent to the state capital Imphal has increased tension in the area. According to security forces, the firing took place in inter-district border villages of Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts.

Manipur shaken by firing: Tense situation

This incident, which took place on Christmas day, created an atmosphere of fear among the local residents. There is no clear information about the number of casualties yet, but there is immense tension in the area due to the firing. A large number of security forces have been deployed in the affected villages to keep the situation under control.

Security officials say patrolling and surveillance have been increased to normalize the situation in the area. Additionally, additional security arrangements have been made to prevent potential threats.

Explosive material recovered in Churachandpur

On the other hand, security forces have recovered a large quantity of explosive material in Churachandpur district of Manipur. On Tuesday, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in a joint operation seized 3.6 kg of explosives, detonators, cordtex and other material from under a bridge near Leesang village on the Imphal-Churachandpur road.

‘Spear Corps’ confirmed the incident on social media platform ‘X’. According to his statement, they had received specific intelligence about the presence of an IED, based on which the search operation was conducted. The bomb disposal squad was immediately deployed and the explosives were defused.

A cache of weapons also seized

In another major action, security forces recovered a huge quantity of weapons in Moljol village of Churachandpur district. These include an M-16 rifle, its magazine, four country-made SBBL guns, a revolver and a large number of cartridges.

Security officials said that a major conspiracy of possible violence has been stopped with the recovery of these weapons. Security forces are investigating for what purpose and by whom these weapons and explosives were collected.

Challenges of restoring peace in Manipur

Manipur has been a victim of violence and tension for a long time. Even on an auspicious occasion like Christmas, such incidents have exposed the security situation in the state. The continuous firing and recovery of explosives has proved that restoring peace in the state remains a big challenge for the security forces and the administration.

Priority of government and security forces

Security forces say they are alert to face every possible threat. The joint actions of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police have shown that the government is committed to bringing stability in the state.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to maintain peace and report any suspicious activity immediately. Despite efforts by the government, this incident reflects the prevailing insecurity in the state and the obstacles to the peace process.
