An Azerbaijan Airliens plane with 67 people onboard has crashed in Kazakhstan, mutiple media reports have said. The crash has reportedly taken place near the city of Aktau.
The plane, which can be seen exploding on landing on ground was engulfed by flames. As per BBC, fire services have put out the fire.
However, there was no immediate word on fate of those onboard.
There was no initial clarity as to cause of the crash.
Azerbaijan Airlines’ official handle (without blue tic) on social media platform X has said that the plane was an Embraer 190 aircraft and the flight number was J2-8243. The airline further said that the plane was on Baku-Grozny when it made ’emergency landing’ 3 kilometres from Aktau.
Baku is capital of Azerbaijan while Grozny is a city in restive Russian province Chechnya.
The airline did not elaborate more at the time of publishing of this news report.
Multiple reports in western media have said that a ministry of Kazakhstan government has confirmed the news of the crash.
Russian news agency TASS said that Kazakhstan’s Emergencies Ministry was trying to find the cause of the crash and that an inquiry will be carried out. This was also reported by Interfax news agency.
