New Delhi: Asma-al-Assad, wife of deposed Syrian President Bashar-al-Assad, has filed for divorce in a Moscow court. Informed people say that he is fed up with life in Moscow. Asma, the daughter of Syrian parents who settled in England, is a British citizen by naturalization even though she was born in England. Therefore, apart from the Syrian passport, he also has a British passport.
After the rebellion in Syria, Assad had sought refuge in Russia. Asma along with her 3 children went to Moscow with the ousted President.
Asma was born in 1975 to her parents in England. He began his career in investment banking after earning a degree in computer science and French literature from Hinges College, London. Married Bashar al-Assad in 2000. He has 3 children. Hafiz, Zain and Kareem.
The Assad family has ruled Syria for 50 years, since Bashar’s father Hafez al-Assad was elected president of the Sunni-majority country in 1970, despite being a Shia. But the last coup forced Bashar al-Assad to flee.
