Bangladesh owes Tripura ₹200 crore electricity bill The interim government of Bangladesh is making various allegations against India. But apart from India it does not seem to be being capitalized on. Tripura government owes Bangladesh Rs. State Chief Minister Manik Saha has revealed that electricity bill of Rs 200 crore is outstanding.
Chief Minister Manik Saha said that no decision has been taken to ban the electricity supplied to neighboring Bangladesh. Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited sends 60-70 MW power supply to neighboring Bangladesh through NTPC Electricity Electricity Corporation Limited. For which an agreement has been made with Bangladesh Power Development Board.
Bangladesh at Rs. 200 crore loan
Bangladesh will supply electricity to Tripura. Rs 200 crore has not been paid. This amount is increasing daily with interest. If dues are not paid, power supply may be stopped. However, the Chief Minister said that at present no decision has been taken in this matter. Tripura government has been supplying electricity to Bangladesh since March 2016. Since August, 2024, the country has not made any payments to Tripura due to incidents of violence including the coup in Bangladesh.
A lot of machinery was brought from Bangladesh (Chittagong port) to set up power generation plants in Tripura. In return, the Tripura government decided to supply supplies to Bangladesh after an agreement. Tripura is bordered by Bangladesh on three sides, north, south and west. Major action has been taken regarding security breach in the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala. In which many people were arrested.
