Kolkata High Court: It is also cruel for the daughter’s family or friends to stay with the daughter’s in-laws for a long time. On December 19, the Calcutta High Court had granted divorce to a person on this basis. The Court ruled that the prolonged stay of a wife’s friends or family members in her home against the husband’s wishes constituted cruelty. The woman’s husband filed for divorce in 2008 after three years of marriage.

He said it is more convenient for him to live here as it is closer to Sealdah, where he works. However, during interrogation she claimed that she had walked away from her husband as she felt helpless.
