Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared Mahendra Chaudhary as its candidate from Delhi’s Mehrauli Assembly seat after sitting MLA Naresh Yadav refused to contest the elections. Naresh Yadav is accused of insulting the Quran and has decided not to contest the elections until he is honorably acquitted by the court. Yadav told his intention to party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, after which the party placed its bet on Mahendra Chaudhary.

- Mahendra Chaudhary’s wife, Rekha Mahendra Chaudhary, is a sitting Aam Aadmi Party councilor from Mehrauli.
- In the 2020 assembly elections, Mahendra Chaudhary had contested from Mehrauli seat as a Congress candidate, but he got third place.
- In 2022, he left Congress and joined Aam Aadmi Party.
- His educational background includes a bachelor’s degree, and he is currently pursuing LLB from MJPR University, Bareilly.

Naresh Yadav’s statement
Naresh Yadav informed about not contesting the elections after meeting Arvind Kejriwal. He wrote on X:
“12 years ago, inspired by the honest politics of Arvind Kejriwal ji, I joined AAP. The party gave me a lot. I requested Arvind ji that I will not contest elections until I am honorably acquitted by the court.”
Yadav further said:
“The allegations against me are politically motivated and false. I will continue to serve the people of Mehrauli and with all my hard work like a worker, I will make Kejriwal ji the Chief Minister again. Jai Hind. Long live Mother India.”
