Indore (Madhya Pradesh): BJP councillor Pushpendra Patidar and four others have been booked for gambling in Indore’s Khajrana area late Thursday night. The accused were arrested with betting tokens, a couple of decks of playing cards, and approximately Rs 2.5 lakh in cash.
Police registered a case under the Gambling Act against the accused. An FIR had been filed by the police, and the accused were taken to the police station, where they stayed overnight.
According to information, the arrest took place at Barsana Garden on Bypass Road. Those detained include BJP councillor Pushpendra Kailash Chandra Patidar, Pradeep Yashoda Nand Gupta, Deepak Gokuldas Mohanwane, Bharat Kedarmal Agrawal, and Dheeraj Prakash Jain.
According to sources, a police informer, who infiltrated this gambling session, informed Kanadia police that a group of people were playing cards and were gambling with money. He also urged the police to take swift action in order to nab the accused.
Police Action
Acting on the tip-off, a team of half a dozen police officials was formed. The team included some high-ranking officials with some mid-level officers. The team then rounded the area that the informer told them about. As soon as the team entered the premises, they found five people with cash, betting tokens, and playing cards.
Police rounded the accused up and took them to the police station. The BJP councillor tried to call up a senior official for help, but the official told the police officers to perform the due diligence. Hence, an FIR had been registered against all the accused. They have been booked under the Gambling Act.
