Writer and filmmaker Upendra, who is known for directing out-of-the-box films, has surprised the audience with a disclaimer appearing right at the start of his film UI. Upendra is also playing the lead role in the film. The Kannada dystopian sci-fi action film hit the big screens on December 20 and it also stars Reeshma Nanaiah, Murali Sharma, Sunny Leone, Jisshu Sengupta, and others.
Fans who watched the early morning shows of UI in theatres on Friday, shared pictures of the disclaimer on social media. In it, Upendra, frequently criticised for his unconventional storylines, cheekily suggested that intelligent viewers should leave the theatre.
The movie begins with a daring disclaimer, urging intelligent viewers to exit the theater immediately, while boldly branding those who remain as “fools.”
“If you are intelligent, get out of the theatre right now,” the disclaimer read.
About UI
Set in the fictional world, the story delves into the psychological conflict between a town’s king and an extraordinary man. Through his cunning and masterful schemes, this man takes over everything, seizes control of the town, and ultimately establishes himself as a dictator.
Earlier, the actor-director had described UI as a ‘logical and psychological take’ on the mythological figure Kalki.
“We recently witnessed a mythological based Kalki in Kalki 2898 AD. In UI, it will be a logical and psychological Kalki,” he had said.
The film was earlier scheduled to release in October 2024. However, it got delayed because of the “technology which was used” in making the film.
Naveen Manoharan, the co-producer of UI, had said in September 2024 that Upendra is one of the first actors in Indian cinema to be scanned by more than 250 cameras. “We have used the scanned images of Upendra in few action sequences in the film. However, the brain of Upendra cannot be scanned and for that audience should watch the UI as it is one of the finest visuals in Indian cinema,” he added, according to a report in Times Now.
