Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An amendment bill to check arbitrary fee hikes in private schools was passed in the Assembly on Thursday. Now, a committee will address the fee-related issues.

The amendment bill, tabled by school education minister Rao Uday Pratap Singh, targets the schools that are taking fees more than Rs 25,000 per year and imposing arbitrary charges in the name of bus services and other charges. The minister said that as the bill has been passed all the schools will now be required to upload all their fee details on the websites.

The schools will not be able to increase their fees at their discretion , he added.  The schools providing bus facility will have to charge charges according to the distance travelled by the student. No discrimination can be made against students covered under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

The committee will be chaired by the minister and the officers will be its members. The committee will hear all the complaints and grievances filed against the schools, said Singh.  Congress MLAs have asked the government to include the Opposition members in the committee.
