Mumbai: In a significant operation, the Dongri Police recovered 940 grams of cocaine worth approximately ₹4.7 crore from Nishanpada Cross Lane. A drug trafficker identified as Imran Yakub Shaikh (44), a resident of Dongri, has been arrested. Zone 1 DCP Dr. Pravin Munde stated that preliminary investigations revealed the accused was transporting drugs for the first time. The narcotics were concealed in the storage compartment of his motorcycle. Authorities are now probing the origin of the drugs, their intended recipients, and possible links to a larger drug syndicate.
According to Dongri Police, on December 16, Assistant Police Inspector Parimal Patil, along with constables P.H. Mulani and P.S. Shinde, was patrolling near Supariwala Building at Nishanpada Cross Lane when they noticed a suspicious motorcycle. The rider’s behavior raised suspicion, prompting the police to approach him for questioning. Instead of cooperating, the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended. Upon questioning, he could not provide a satisfactory explanation for his attempt to escape.
Suspecting illegal contents, the police searched the motorcycle (MH 01 DL 7972). Inside the storage compartment, they found a black plastic bag containing a white soft substance and a yellow cloth bag holding multiple 1-inch plastic packets filled with the same substance. Upon further questioning, the suspect admitted that the substance was cocaine.
The police seized the drugs and confirmed the total weight to be 940 grams. Investigations into the source of the drugs, the delivery plans, and connections to the drug network are ongoing.
