Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a raid at the Bhopal Talkies area on Sunday and seized expired food items being sold by a street vendor on Hamidia Road.

The items included confectionery, protein powders, chocolates, dry fruits, spices, and other eatables that had exceeded their ‘best before’ dates.

These expired products were being sold openly, posing serious health risks to customers. Officials took strict action to prevent further sale of such items and ensure public safety. Investigations are underway to identify the source of these expired goods.

FDA inspector DK Dubey said on Sundays the shops on Hamidia Road, Bhopal Talkies remain closed and taking advantage of this the street vendors run their business on the day.

“One of the vendors had displayed all the eatables on the tables and was convincing the people that they are edible and safe. FDA team seized all such expired eatables. The eatables that surpassed the expiry date or those nearing the date were being sold at subsidized rate to attract the customers easily,” the officer said.

Vendors convince customers stating “Most of such products are still good to eat and safely edible for a reasonably limited period of time. Destroying such stocks leads to sheer wastage of food, while a lot of it is nutritional,” said the FDA officials.
