Mira-Bhayandar: “Jaako Raakhe Saiyan Maar Sake Na Koi” (He Who God Protects, No One Can Harm) you must have heard this saying many times, however, a 40-year-old auto-rickshaw driver proved it true after he cheated death by a whisker.
About The Incident
The incident was reported from the station road area in Bhayandar (west) at around 6 pm on Saturday. Within a few seconds after the driver identified as Shriniwas Jaiswal parked and stepped out of his auto-rickshaw to have tea on the opposite side of the road a huge tree uprooted and crashed on his vehicle.
The front part of the auto-rickshaw was reduced to a mangled heap of metal remains, prompting onlookers to imagine the fate of the driver if he had made a fraction of the delay in stepping out of the vehicle. Vehicular movement was disrupted for a few hours as the uprooted tree blocked the road.
The fire brigade personnel reached the spot and removed the trunk and branches of the tree with the help of cutter machines. Although the auto-rickshaw driver may have been lucky enough to escape from the fall, similar dangers are lurking across the twin-city as many trees and their branches are sagging dangerously, posing a serious threat to the lives and limbs of road users. However, it seems that officials from the Tree Authority attached to the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) are waiting for more serious tragedies to wake up from their slumber and take remedial measures.
