Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Cold winds sweeping across state have brought a sharp drop in temperatures, with a significant chill settling over many cities.
Maximum daytime temperatures in most areas are ranging between 20-25°C, and early mornings have seen a blanket of dew across several districts. The lowest temperature of 2°C has been recorded at the hill station of Pachmarhi.
The drop in temperatures is attributed to the cold winds from Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Jammu & Kashmir, where recent snowfall occurred. In the capital city of Bhopal, temperatures fell below 4°C, marking the coldest night of the season so far.
Cities like Indore, Ujjain, and Gwalior have also experienced a consistent drop in both daytime and nighttime temperatures.
The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert for more than 30 districts, and many areas are experiencing the effects of a cold day. The weather is expected to remain the same throughout the week, with a further dip in minimum temperatures.
According to the department, districts including Bhopal, Jabalpur, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Umaria, Mandla, Seoni, Guna, Narmadapuram, Badwani, Neemuch, Shajapur, Shahdol, Sehore, Sagar, and Katin are seeing the effects of the cold wave.
What is expected?
The Meteorological Department has also predicted that from the end of December into January, a period of 20 to 22 days of cold waves, accompanied by dense fog, is expected.
