In an exclusive conversation with The Free Press Journal, actor Manav Vij shared his experiences of playing Kabir Farooqui in Tanaav Season 2, revisiting the success of the first season, and the unique challenges of filming in Kashmir. Directed by Sudhir Mishra, the political thriller continues to captivate audiences with its gripping storyline.
Manav, who reprises his role as a Special Task Force officer, shared how his character evolves in the second season. “Kabir Farooqui is back, but he’s not the same. He’s gone through a lot, losing people he loved, which changes his outlook on life. There’s a powerful revenge arc this time, and playing that transformation was both exciting and emotionally demanding,” he explained.
Talking about filming in Kashmir, Manav couldn’t help but praise the breathtaking beauty of Pahalgam. “It’s not just what you see in films; Pahalgam has a character and serenity that make you fall in love with it. The food, the weather—everything is perfect. It’s a place that takes you back to your thoughts and leaves a lasting impression.”
The support from the locals in Kashmir made the experience even more special for the team. “The locals were incredible. They didn’t just support us; many acted alongside us and ensured everything ran smoothly. Despite the region being one of the most militarised zones in the world, we felt safe and welcomed. Their warmth was truly unforgettable,” Manav said.
Reflecting on the most challenging scenes in Tanaav Season 2, Manav mentioned a particularly intense moment. “There’s a barbershop scene in the eleventh episode that was tough. It wasn’t just about action—it was the emotional depth and intensity that made it challenging. The scenes with my on-screen father were also memorable, as they were full of raw emotion.”
When asked about his life beyond acting, Manav laughed and said, “I don’t invest in businesses; I invest in people. Building meaningful connections is what matters most to me.”
On upcoming projects, Manav revealed, “I’m working on a beautiful show directed by E. Nivas. It’s shaping up wonderfully, and I think audiences will love it.”
Sharing a few fan encounters, Manav described how some moments stay with him. “Once, a fan scolded me—it was their way of showing love! Another time, someone made a detailed portrait of me, which was touching. Fans often come up with comments like, ‘Say hello to your dog!’ It’s heartwarming and shows how connected they feel to us.”
Manav’s humility, dedication to his craft, and reflections on life beyond the screen offer a glimpse into the man behind the roles. With Tanaav Season 2 and more projects on the horizon, fans can expect more compelling performances from him in the future.
