Indian badminton star and two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu got engaged to Venkata Datta Sai on Saturday, December 14, in an intimate ceremony.

The event featured a charming “Miss to Mrs” theme, with Sindhu sharing a heartfelt message on Instagram, quoting Khalil Gibran: “When love beckons to you, follow him, for love gives nought but itself.”

Sindhu’s father, PV Ramana, revealed that the engagement was arranged quickly as Sindhu’s schedule will become hectic from January. “This was the only possible window,” he said, emphasizing the need to plan around her sporting commitments.

The couple will tie the knot on December 22 in Udaipur, with pre-wedding celebrations starting on December 20. A grand reception is scheduled in Hyderabad on December 24, after which Sindhu will return to training.

Sindhu has invited prominent figures, including cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah, to her wedding festivities.

PV Sindhu’s upcoming tournaments

The badminton ace is set to participate in the Malaysia Open Super 1000 tournament beginning January 7. Her wedding marks a short but joyous break in her rigorous routine as she prepares for a crucial season leading to the 2024 Olympics and beyond.

The engagement follows a successful comeback after a challenging year. Although an injury hampered her performance in the Japan’s Kumamoto Masters, Sindhu displayed remarkable resilience, recovering to clinch the Syed Modi International title in November.

As Sindhu gears up for the next Olympic cycle, her December wedding provides a moment of celebration and reflection. With the Malaysia Open and other key tournaments ahead, the shuttler is poised to resume her journey toward achieving greater milestones in the sport.
