Guwahati: Bombs threat were reported at important places like Guwahati Railway Station and Gauhati University on Thursday. The Guwahati Police launched massive search operation to find out bombs and culprits. After massive search police failed to find any bomb-like substance in both the places.

“At around 11 AM, the City Police Control in Guwahati received a telephonic call from the Shillong Police’s 112 helpline. The caller informed the police of a potential bomb blast at the railway station in Paltan Bazar, Guwahati”, said Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Borah.

In response, police, the Government Railway Police (GRP), and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) immediately launched a thorough inspection of the station premises.

Sniffer dogs and bomb detection equipment were deployed to ensure a swift and efficient search, all while maintaining public calm and order.

The alternative cell number of the caller was traced, and further investigations are underway. After an exhaustive check by all involved agencies, no explosives were found.

Following the clearance, all police teams dispersed, confirming that the threat was a false alarm. Meanwhile, the concerned authorities continue their investigation into the incident.

“Separately, Assam Police received an email suggesting that bombs might be planted at seven locations within the Gauhati University campus. The email did not explicitly state that bombs were planted but urged authorities to take precautions due to the possibility of an attack. Efforts are underway to trace the email’s origin”, Diganta Barah, Police Commissioner said.

Security teams, including the university’s own personnel and Guwahati Police, combed the campus thoroughly but did not uncover any explosive devices.

When asked whether the threats were linked to insurgent groups such as ULFA(I), Commissioner Barah dismissed the likelihood of any involvement by banned outfits.

“Further investigations are ongoing to gather more details, but we cannot disclose additional information at this stage,” he said.

The incidents have raised concerns about security at critical infrastructure and public institutions, prompting heightened vigilance across the region.
