Following the incident, the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar (MRA) Marg Police launched a search for the two-wheeler rider and registered a case against him on the same day. The accused, identified as Mohammad Sahil Siddiqui, a water supplier, has now been arrested.
The accident occurred at Bhatia Junction near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) while Andunhi was crossing the road. Siddiqui’s speeding two-wheeler hit Andunhi, causing him to fall onto the road and into the path of a BEST bus’s rear wheels.
The accident happened around 4:30 PM on Wednesday, leading to Andunhi’s instant death. On receiving information about the accident, the MRA Marg Police rushed to the scene, sent Andunhi’s body to St. George Hospital, and detained the BEST bus driver, Dnyandev Jagdale, for questioning.
The victim was wearing a white shirt and lungi at the time of the accident and was identified as Husseinar Andunhi, originally from Kerala. He was involved in small-scale business for his livelihood. The incident occurred at Bhatia Junction when Andunhi lost his balance after being hit by Siddiqui’s two-wheeler, ultimately falling under the bus’s rear wheels.
The police analyzed CCTV footage from the area and identified the two-wheeler’s registration number, which helped them trace Siddiqui to the Dongri area. Siddiqui, aged 20, was apprehended from Chinchbandar in Dongri. A case was registered against him for reckless driving leading to death.
During questioning, the BEST bus driver confirmed that the victim was hit by a two-wheeler before falling under the bus’s rear wheels. The bus was en route from Anushakti Nagar to Colaba at the time of the accident. After gathering technical evidence and confirming Siddiqui’s involvement through CCTV footage, the police arrested him on Thursday.
The investigation revealed that Siddiqui’s reckless driving led to Andunhi’s death. The police registered a case against Siddiqui and successfully traced and arrested him with the help of CCTV footage and technical evidence.
