To take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Union Territory of Delhi, the Congress Party may join hands with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming Assembly Elections. News agency ANI, citing sources, has reported that Congress and AAP are in the final stages of agreeing on an alliance for the Delhi elections.
As per the report, the Congress Party is expected to get 15 out of the 70 seats in Delhi, while another INDIA Alliance member might get 1-2 seats. The AAP will get the lion’s share and is eyeing over 55 seats.
Notably, at the beginning of the month, former Delhi chief minister and AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, in a press conference, had ruled out the possibility of any political tie-up in the capital for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, stating, “There will be no alliance in Delhi.”
However, the latest developments regarding seat-sharing between AAP and Congress can be attributed to the BJP’s massive victory in Maharashtra, which has instilled fear in AAP.
In Delhi, AAP, leaving its potential allies and rivals behind, has already announced 31 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections.
In the 2020 elections, the AAP won 62 seats, and the BJP won 8, while the Congress party failed to secure any seats.
