Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The name of a leader sitting in the back row at the BJP Legislative Party (BJPLP) meeting was announced from the stage. That baffled the leader for a while. Legislators sitting nearby told him that he was elected leader of the Legislative Party and called to the rostrum. This was the day when the state saw a major shift in BJP politics.

On December 11 last year, Mohan Yadav was elected leader of the BJPLP. He took oath as Chief Minister on December 13. Yadav’s becoming the Chief Minister was an important political event in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah chose Yadav as chief ministerial candidate. In the past one year, Yadav has been moving ahead to fulfill the central leadership’s expectations.

A year ago, when Shivraj Singh Chouhan was the chief minister, it was said no CM could work so hard. What Yadav has proved in one year is that as far as working hard is concerned, he is no less than anyone. If Yadav’s one year’s performance in office is estimated, it will be found that he has always been on the move. He has worked tirelessly. He took part in various events either held in the state or outside it. He continuously held meetings in Mantralaya and CM House and got himself acquainted with the officers through video conferencing.

By dint of sheer hard work, he achieved recognition. Yadav was seen canvassing for party candidates contesting the by-elections in the state and for assembly polls in other states. Now, it is evident that the BJP is counting on him. He has adopted the policy of ‘Na Kahu se dosti na kahu se bair (neither friendship nor enmity with anyone)’ and taken many important administrative decisions.

Reorganisation of district was necessary in the state. So vital was demolition of BRTS. Creating job opportunities, a major challenge before the government, can be solved only by setting up industries. Yadav has worked on all these issues. He has also silently carried out the RSS agenda in the state as Modi has done in the country. Organising Gita Mahotsav, celebrating Rani Durgawati and Ahilya Bai Jayanti, connecting SC/ST community with the mainstream belong to the RSS agenda which the government is carrying out without any clamour. It was not easy to remove loudspeakers from religious places.

While the removal of loudspeakers from religious places raised a lot of din in Uttar Pradesh, it was smoothly carried out in MP. The major challenge Yadav is facing is to make the system people-centric and promote MP as a welfare state. There should be good governance in the state, and ordinary people should have no problem in getting their day-to-day problems solved. The government should carry out big projects but must also pay attention to solve the problems of the man on the street. This is what Yadav thinks. Nevertheless, just one year for a chief minister of a big state like MP is just a step – not the destination.
