Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Bhanwarkuan police busted a gang of serial mobile snatchers who also indulged in theft of two-wheelers. Four youths of the gang were arrested while a minor was detained, police said on Monday. The police seized 37 stolen mobiles and two stolen motorcycles worth Rs 7 lakh from their possession.
The accused used to come to the city from Khandwa to commit snatching and return back after committing a crime. The accused committed the crime to have a luxurious life and finance their girlfriend’s expenses. They allegedly told police that they were snatching phones for the last six months. The accused had snatched at least 5 mobile phones in a single day. According to the police, a software engineer lodged a complaint stating that three bike-borne individuals snatched his mobile phone from IT Park on December 6.
The police examined CCTV footage near the spot and gathered information about the bike. The police identified the bike and tracked its route which had come from Khandwa side and returned the same way. Then the police received a tip-off that a boy was selling stolen mobile phones near IT Park at cheap price. The police reached the spot and nabbed him. The boy allegedly told police that it was a stolen mobile phone. The police also nabbed his other two accomplices Aman Lalwani and Ravi Chawde of Khandwa and recovered about 20 mobiles from them. During interrogation, they allegedly told police about their previous criminal activities and police recovered a total of 37 stolen mobiles along with two stolen bikes from them.
They allegedly informed police about their two accomplices Rounak Rana and Roshan Jadhav of Dudhiya in Khudel. The police did not find any criminal record against them. DCP Rishikesh Meena announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for the police team for busting the gang. A case was registered against the accused under sections 304 (2) of BNS and they are being interrogated further for providing information about their stolen mobile buyers.
