Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A sharp drop in day as well as night temperature was recorded in the state on Monday. A drop in temperature was noticed, especially in the western region of the state. Divisions like Bhopal, Indore and Narmadapuram witnessed a sharp drop in temperature, according to the meteorological department officials.

Bhopal recorded a drop of 4.4 degrees Celsius in day temperature settled at 23.4 degrees Celsius, while it recorded a 2.9 degrees Celsius drop in night temperature settled at 9.2 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Indore recorded a drop of 4.6 degrees Celsius in day temperature settled at 22.9 degrees Celsius, while it recorded a drop of 2.9 degrees Celsius in night temperature, taking the minimum to 11.4 degrees Celsius.

The day temperature was around 20 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius at most of the places in the western region, while the eastern region recorded day temperature above 25 degrees Celsius. According to the meteorological department, cyclonic circulation is over Uttar Pradesh. Besides, subtropical jet stream wind is blowing in Uttar Pradesh.

These are the factors for a drop in temperature in the central part of the country. The trend is likely to continue for the time being. Wind blowing from the northern belt, which received the season s first snowfall and the rains, which lashed the lower hills of Uttarakhand, infused chill in the central part of the country. Following the spell of snow, cold wave conditions are likely to intensify across the mountains and the plains.
