A 27 year old man has been arrested for attempting to murder his cousin sister’s four year old neighbour. A four year old child identified as Siratfatima from Turbhe was first throttled and then grievously injured with a knife around the eyes by the accused identified as Omkar Shantaram Hilam (27).
The incident occurred on Sunday evening at the residence of Nikita Sachin Jaiswal (23), cousin sister of Hilam. A resident of sector 21 in Turbhe village, Jaiswal is a neighbour of Siratfatima. Jaiswal is very fond of the child and would often taken her home for playing.

Nazhat Praveen Shoaib Akhtar Shaikh (35), mother of the child has mentioned in his complaint that the attack was unprovoked and they do not know what the reason is for attacking the child. Jaiswal had called the child on Sunday to paint the nails. While Jaiswal was looking for a nail colour to apply, her maternal uncle’s son Hilam, who was there at home started shouting at her and questioning her why she always got the neighbouring baby to home and looked after her. He first kicked Jaiswal on her stomach and then used a knife to attack the child.
The victim child is the youngest of the three children of the Shaikh family. She has two sons aged 11 and 7 respectively.
According to police, Jaiswal is married and had suffered miscarriage and had been staying at her maternal house since few weeks. Father of the victim, Shoeb Akhtar is a worker in APMC market. Jaiswal family and the victim’s family are know to each other since many years.
Following the attack, the child has to undergo a surgery for the wounds on her face and is admitted to a private hospital in Vashi. APMC Police registered a case under section 109 – attempt to murder, 118 (2) voluntarily causing hurt. The accused was arrested and is under police custody, said the police.
