Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh ended his draw streak against defending champion Ding Liren of China in the World Chess Championship on Sunday, winning the 11th game and taking a one-point lead. This was Gukesh’s second win against Liren.
With three rounds of games remaining in the classical format, the 18-year-old Indian currently leads 6-5. Let us tell you here that Gukesh and Liren had earlier drawn seven consecutive games. But the Indian Grandmaster took advantage of Liren’s mistake and succeeded in putting pressure on the Chinese opponent. It is noteworthy that out of the total 11 matches played between the two players, eight matches have been drawn while Gukes has won two games and Liren has been successful in winning one match so far. Liren took the lead by winning the initial game but then Gukesh won the third game. All subsequent games were drawn.
