MP December 9 Weather Updates: Icy Winds From North Bring Shivers; Expect Cold Wave From December 10; Light Rains Likely In Eastern State | Picasa

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A significant drop in temperatures were witnessed in various districts of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday night leading to a chilly morning on Monday. Besides, light rain is likely in eastern parts of the state in the next 24 hours. Day temperature drop ranged from one degree to two degrees Celsius across the state.

Further drop in temperatures are expected from December 10 (Tuesday) due to the icy winds from the north bringing a cold wave to the region. The effect of a Western Disturbance will lower temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius across the state, including Bhopal and Indore.

What do meteorologists say?

According to IMD Bhopal’s meteorologist Abhijeet Chakraborty, light drizzle was observed in parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, leading to a noticeable dip in daytime temperatures.

The weathermen forecast fluctuating weather until December 15, along with cold, rain, and cloudy skies.

However, an intense cold wave is expected to grip the state starting December 20, lasting well into January. During this 40-day period, 20 to 22 days of severe cold and icy winds (cold waves) are likely. The coldest areas will include Ujjain, Gwalior, and Chambal divisions due to direct exposure to frigid winds.

As snowfall occurs in the northern mountains due to the Western Disturbance, the melting snow will bring icy winds to the plains, significantly impacting Madhya Pradesh’s weather.

Cold waves from north to affect MP

Jet stream winds, blowing at speeds of 260 km/h at an altitude of 12.6 km over northwest India, combined with the active Western Disturbance, are influencing the weather pattern. This will result in snow melting in the northern regions, followed by cold winds sweeping into Madhya Pradesh.

Minimum temperature recorded at many places are as follows:

Gwalior 9.3

Rajgarh 9.6

Khajuraho 10.2

Nowgong 10.3

Satna 10.3

Chhatarpur 10.3

Pachmarhi 10.6°C

Temperatures in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Ujjain are also dropping steadily.
