A suspicious drone-like device was found within the premises of Mumbai airport terminal 1 on the day of Mahayuti’s oath ceremony. The prohibited gizmo was found on December 5 hours ahead of arrival of several VVIPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Airport police have booked an unidentified person under section 223 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. As drones and similar flying objects are strictly prohibited in airport zones, the attempt to operate such a device in a restricted area had thrown the security personnel into a tizzy.
According to the FIR, two cleaning staff members informed the police that they had found the device on the taxiway around 9.30am. The Anti-Terrorist Squad retrieved the object at around 12.30pm from near the old Air India hangar.
A search operation in and around the airport area was launched immediately to locate the device operator, but no one was found.
