Navi Mumbai: Four cousins from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai were swept away in the Kundalika River in Raigad on Saturday evening. They have been identified as siblings Siddhesh Sonar (21) and Kajal Sonar (26), and their cousins Soni Sonar (27) and Siddhi Pedekar (16).

About The Case

The Pedekar family, from Navi Mumbai, and the Sonar family, from Sion, had gone to visit their maternal grandmother in Shiravali village at Mangaon Taluka earlier this week. On Friday, the families went to the lake to spend some time. They returned on Saturday afternoon to wash clothes.

While they were washing their clothes, Siddhesh fell into the river. Kajal jumped in to save him. Seeing them drown, Soni and Siddhi too jumped in. All four drowned, according to police. Locals and rescuers found the bodies of Siddhesh and Siddhi around 500 metres downstream.

A search is underway to find the bodies of the other two.
