Indore (Madhya Pradesh): “Cosmetic surgeries cost lakhs, but acupuncture offers a much cheaper alternative that works in harmony with body anatomy and physiology,” the experts said during the national conference of the Acupuncture Association of India, AAICON, which began on Saturday. Experts at the event highlighted acupuncture’s wide-ranging benefits, from cosmetic enhancements to treatment of chronic ailments.

Organising chairman Dr Nilesh Patel emphasised the growing popularity of cosmetic acupuncture, which effectively reduces premature wrinkles, detoxifies the face, and treats dark spots. “Unlike expensive surgeries, acupuncture offers a natural, cost-effective solution that aligns with the body’s physiology,” he said.

Dr Patel described how acupuncture can aid in neurological recovery, including cases of Bell’s palsy and paralysis. “Timely intervention leads to quicker results,” he added. In cancer palliative care, acupuncture not only alleviates pain but also reduces the side effects of chemotherapy, enhancing the patient’s quality of life.

Additionally, it is effective in managing obesity by targeting fat reduction without compromising overall health. Meanwhile, Acupuncture Association of India president Dr Mrigendranath Gantait highlighted the therapy’s potential in preventing invasive procedures. “For arthritis patients, early acupuncture treatment can eliminate the need for knee replacement,” he stated.

He also noted its effectiveness in managing asthma and treating eye and nose conditions, adding that recovery time depends on the condition’s severity at the start of treatment. Experts also explored acupuncture’s effectiveness in addressing migraines, sciatica, stress, insomnia, arthritis, muscle pain, and digestive issues. The conference also celebrated Indian culture with a musical show portraying the lives of key women in the Ramayana, including Kaushalya, Kaikeyi, and Sita.
