Mercedes-Benz India will launch the G 580 EV, the electric version of the iconic G-Class, on January 9, 2025. Powered by EQ technology, the SUV features a quad-motor all-wheel-drive system and delivers a range of up to 473 km per charge. The design retains the classic G-Class appeal with minor updates, including a closed-off four-slat grille. Buyers in global markets can opt for an illuminated EQ-style grille. Additional changes include redesigned bumpers and subtle tweaks to the A-pillar cladding, merging electric innovation with timeless design.

Mercedes-Benz G 580 EV offers a blend of luxury and cutting-edge electric technology. Powered by a quad-motor all-wheel-drive system, it produces 579 bhp and 1,164 Nm of torque, supported by a 116 kWh battery delivering a range of up to 473 km. The SUV accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed limited to 180 kmph. For off-road enthusiasts, it boasts a fording depth of 850 mm, approach and departure angles of 32 and 30.7 degrees respectively, and a breakover angle of 20.3 degrees.

The design features include a roof-mounted spoiler, optional rear storage instead of a spare wheel, and minor tweaks to the standard G-Class appearance. Inside, the cabin retains twin 12.3-inch digital displays with EQ-specific graphics, replacing traditional differential switches with controls for the ‘tank turn’ feature and low-range activation. Mercedes-Benz opened bookings for the G 580 EV in July 2024, with the model arriving as a limited-number CBU import.
