Bhopal/Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A 46-year-old kirana shop owner was shot dead late at Thursday night in MP’s Jabalpur. The incident occurred when he was watching TV with his family at home and two bike-borne men called him outside around 12:30 am. As soon as he stepped out, the accused shot him in the stomach and fled the scene.

Hearing the gunshot, his wife and daughter rushed out. They immediately took the victim to Sihora Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body has been sent for post mortem. Police have registered a case in the matter.

According to information, the victim, identified as 46-year-old Malkhe Chakravarty, ran a kirana shop from his house in Ward-17 of the Khitola-Majhgawan Bypass area in Jabalpur. Late on Thursday night, a duo of bike-borne men, allegedly known to him, called him out of his house. The assailants alleged that they needed to return some stuff that they bought from his shop.

At 12:30 AM, when Malkhe stepped out, he was shot twice. The accused shot him twice in the stomach and fled the scene. The sound of gunshots alerted the family, who rushed outside to inspect. Malkhe’s wife and daughter came out of the house to see Malkhe lying bloody on the floor. They immediately contacted an ambulance and took him to Sihora Hospital in the district. Unfortunately, Malkhe succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

Police Investigation

According to sources, the family alerted Dial-100 right after the incident. When no help arrived, they went to Khitola police station. Before taking action, they allegedly received a request to file a written complaint at the Khitola police station.

Malkhe’s body was sent for a post-mortem on Friday morning. His last rites will be performed in his ancestral village, Salimnabad Bandhi. Police are investigating the motive behind the killing and are on the lookout for the suspects.
