American skier Mikaela Shiffrin recorded the 98th win of her career by acing at the first slalom of the 2025 Alpine Skiing World Cup season.
Shiffrin was awarded with a reindeer, the traditional prize presented to the winner at the race in Finnish Lapland.
This made it the 8th reindeer she took home from the sports event. She won the last one in 2023 after leaving behind competitor Petra Vlohova.
“I don’t know what I will name the reindeer yet”, she told the media. It is learned that the reindeer would remain in Finland itself.
Finally she settled for the name ‘Rori’, honouring the Aurora Borealis, which Shiffrin saw for the first time in Levi.
Some of her previous reindeer names are Rudolph (2013), Ingemar, Lorax, and Sunny.
The skier representing US proudly kissed success at 61 slaloms. She has an impressive record of winning 98 races overall.
