The need for a college degree to find a livelihood has steadily increased over a period of time and has arguably reached new heights in the 21st century.

Sridhar Vembu Supports Elon Musk’s Statement

However, many opinion leaders in the business world have now shifted their focus and attention from the need for a college degree.

One of the most prominent of all, Elon Musk made his case for the apparent futility of the said college degrees.

Elon Musk had famously claimed that college is overrated. It needs to be noted, that Musk himself attended Queen’s University in Canada, apart from spending time at the University of Pennsylvania.

Now, an Indian tech CEO, namely Zoho’s Sridhar Vembu has resonanted with the same thought.

While replying to a post asking for his take on Elon Musk opinion, Vembu made his stance clear.

Don’t Need History Majors

In his post, quoting the video carrying Elon Musk’s speech, Vembu said, “India has to value people who do hands-on work, including electricians, plumbers, welders and nurses. We need people who build things.”

Replicating Musk’s sentiments, the Zoho boss outright rejected and admonished the idea of degrees or academic in subjects of the field of Humanities.

Going on a tirade against degrees in the field of humanities, Vembu further added, “We do not need more Economics or Political Science or History majors. I study history, philosophy, and economics, but I would never want to get a degree in any of them.”

No Need to Build Colleges

Vembu further added, “Opening ever more degree colleges does not build skills and does not offer livelihoods.”

Like Musk, Vembu, who was born into socially privileged community, also has illusruous academic background. Vembu went to the prestigious IIT Madras, before going another prestigious Princeton University.
