Madhya Pradesh High Court Directs Man To Plant 50 Trees In A Month As Punishment In Criminal Contempt Of Court Case 

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered a man to plant 50 indigenous trees within a month as a penalty in a criminal contempt of court case. The court accepted his apology and emphasized the need for social responsibility.

A division bench, comprising Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf, issued the order on December 2 against Rahul Sahu in a case initiated by the court itself (suo motu action). Sahu had made a social media post about court proceedings in Morena, which led to the case.

Sahu made offensive social media post 

The court directed Sahu to plant 50 trees at least four feet tall in Sambhalgarh of Morena district under the supervision of the local forest officer. The Sub-Divisional Officer (Forest) will decide the exact location for planting.

Sahu, who is semi-literate and studied only up to Class 10, expressed remorse and apologized, submitting an affidavit. He promised to be more careful in the future and volunteered for social service.

The case began when a Judicial Magistrate in Sambhalgarh noticed Sahu’s social media post about a family case involving his wife. Despite being given a chance to respond, Sahu initially ignored the notice, leading to the matter being escalated to the High Court.

By fulfilling the tree-planting order, the case against Sahu will be closed.
