Delhi’s air quality has remained in the “poor” category for the fourth straight day, registering an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 211 at 8 am on Wednesday, an improvement from 274 on Tuesday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Delhi AQI
Monitoring stations recorded notable improvements in AQI, with Major Dhyan Chand Stadium at 209, Patparganj at 216, Lodhi Road-IITM at 218, and Anand Vihar at 214. Some areas reported “moderate” AQI levels: ITO at 161, Chandni Chowk at 181, Mandir Marg at 179, Lodhi Road-IMD at 174, and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 179.
SC Denies Relaxation Of GRAP
The Supreme Court of India has mandated that Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (Grap) remains in effect. The Supreme Court has stressed the need for ongoing declines in AQI before considering any relaxations in Grap measures, with a hearing set for December 5. The court has questioned the Delhi government about enforcement resources, specifically regarding regulations on truck access to the capital.
Delhi’s AQI Concerns
Experts warn that the current AQI improvement may be temporary without rigorous pollution-control measures and policies addressing emissions from various sources. While residents experience a brief respite, the journey to sustainable air quality in Delhi remains complex and challenging.
